Listening

LISTEN

to hear something with thoughtful attention

"Prayer is when you talk to God; meditation is when you listen to God."

"He that hath ears to hear, let him hear...because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand."

Mat 11:15, 13:13b

"I would rather a thousand times be five minutes at the feet of Christ than listen a lifetime to all the wise men in the world."

D. L. Moody

Listening is a fundamental tool of learning.

What we listen to, accurately reflects our interests.

Who we listen to, accurately reflects our affections.

More attention is given to our eyesight than to our hearing, yet, "...faith cometh by hearing."

The end result is, we are governed more by what we see in the world, than what we hear from God.

The world shouts in our face, but God whispers to our heart.

Listening requires:

Disciplined Attentiveness

Inner Quietness

Interest

Our willingness to listen places a value on what we hear.

Truth retains its value whether or not we listen.

We will either benefit or suffer by how we listen.

"I SAID, Hold it this way!"
